Since there is no overnight camping at Observation Point, this Zion National Park site is a place to sit down, relax, drink some water, have lunch, and marvel at the canyon, with both rims stretched out in front of you. This is a strenuous hike to the highest point in Zion National Park. To get to this hike you exit from the east entrance and turn left off fork road and drive about 5 miles down a paved road. Scenery along the way was also beautiful and changed constantly, and there was a shadier level section where we could take a break. Eventually the abyss was left behind, and the trail flattened out into a surprisingly smooth sloped grassy area—this was the last stage before Observation Point I found out later, but I tore through it so quickly I failed to notice the land falling away on either side until there I was, at Observation Point, with the whole valley extending below in toe-tingling glory! Observation Point, Zion lies at the end of a thigh-burning hike, but the view will be worth the effort, looking down on the sandstone canyon in its full beauty.
